Loved And Lost

Loved And Lost
By Mark Spencer

'Tis true, love is a fickle thing.
It comes and goes upon the wing.

It soars to heights beyond the stars,
Then leaves thy soul with empty scars.

But if it's truly in thy heart,
It shall remain, it can't depart.

Its power can enthrall the soul,
And cause a mind to lose control.

But if somehow this love should fail,
Or one is called beyond the veil,

Thy heart and soul shall not find peace,
For true love's song shall never cease.

A song sung with thy final breath,
Then taken with thee unto death.

And even there it shall pervade,
Not even death can make it fade.

Better to pay the lonely cost,
Than be the one who loved and lost.

End.
