The Dance

by Unseen Exposure   Sep 26, 2005

Dancing back and forth on twinkle toes
To a beat that won't sustain
Fumbling between the many fugues
The coda, to the repeat, and the refrain

The orchestra strikes the mocking cue
And she crumbles to her knees
The band arises her clumsy balance
Bending backward with such ease

Such emotionless eyes upon frail skin
Her features defined by paint
True beauty may lie beneath this front
Though held back with intense restraint

To the eyes that stare with judgment;
She cannot bring herself to see
The expressions they're making to evaluate
The reasons why she's come to be

The music takes a welcome breath
Her eyes close as she turns away
The song reveres and begins again
Now she's forced to lead the way

She twirls herself in passionate grace
The mystery lies in her dance
Perhaps there's sadness in her soul
Or hints of anger at a second glance

Perfection lies in her soft movements
Though most people will never demise
Or choose to see the beauty
Her soul possesses and confines.
