My Name

by David   Oct 23, 2005

I was born no king
But named for one
Since before matrimony had been envisioned
My title has been

David
"Beloved"
A fitting enough name
My parents made sure of that!

I've always liked my name
Its twin syllables
Its double D
Its calm demeanor
Just right for me

A perfect excuse for friendship
(I haven't met a David I didn't like)
Not just in school, but airports and restaurants
A warm smile from "David, too"

A convenient translation
To Hebrew and Spanish
And pronounced similarly too
Pretty snazzy

My last name, not as satisfying
You see, I'm a Horstman
A German "sandy riverbank"
Not so regal, eh?

But its worst adverse affect:
An academic confusion
With a not-so-inclined Horstmann
Not-so-easy to fix!

2 names
2 D's
2 A's
4 syllables
infinite misspellings
My name is
True perfection
