Whispers

by Carrie Hoover   Dec 8, 2005

Whispers breathed in the heat of the night
Light the fires that burn so bright
It's only the flames as they lick the skin
That fulfill the ever-burning passionate sin

The unsaid word and the tormenting silence
Screams in the mind for constant release
Now where are the flames that licked the skin so?
Locked in a world that tortures the soul

Crying at dawn; laughing at dusk
Living with nothing; dying with all
Waking in darkness; sleeping in light
Who can change this horrible flight

Dreams of running-- I'm screaming your name
At the end of the hall I can now see the flame
But wait--it's gone--where did it go?
It now burns within me
It brands my soul.

Hi, Carrie.Really liked this piece-it has a real sing-song rhyme scheme flow when reading it, and such an excellent use of language.Your images are great and ver effective at conveying the emotions that pulse throughout this poem.I see we share an interest in poetry and music(check my profile/poems if you get a chance, and you'll see what I mean).Anyway, I hope you are still writing and will soon be posting more of your work.Really love the last stanza in this, a lot of impact.Great poem.Take care.

Hey, that was interesting and very unique I think. I liked the choice
of words and I liked the third stanza
    the best.
    much love and happiness,
