If Only (Suicide/Depression)

by FireCracker   Dec 9, 2005

If only you knew the truth
Then maybe I could make you see
That somewhere beyond this smile
Is the girl I dread to be

I spend my hours in a day
For people who just don't give a damn
I wish I was anyone
But the person I really am

Take a step back
Glance lightly and realize
That somewhere beyond my hair and makeup
There is a girl which cries

If only you knew how I'm lost and lonely
Not quite sure where I belong
Everyday gets harder
As I try and appear strong

If only you knew of
The person with such low self esteem
I've given up on everything
I'm not the girl of which I seem

If only you knew that behind this smile
In everything you'll never understand
Because lets just say my life is far from perfect
And it isn't going the way I planned

If only I could show you
This pain in which I carry everyday
Because I am dieing daily
If only you knew of how I'm wasting my life away

This is one fantastic and very thoughtful poem. The melancholy of the verse was duly enhanced by the structure, the repetition of key phrases and an excellent diction.

I am impressed by your talent, you are certainly one excellent poetess.
