Christmas Poem

by Hello Life   Dec 24, 2005

I can hear the beats
Of Christmas merriment
But who can hear the hell
Where my youth and laughter went
Strangled out by tinsel
Or strings of fairy lights
Crushed by soft falling snow
As I slept through the white nights
Suffocated by the crowds
As I buy gifts for you
Drop them beneath the tree
What's really underneath this festive do
Because from where I am
I don't notice the love
But the tension and depression
I can see from above
But I'll unwrap presents
And watch you and smile
Pull crackers and laugh away
Knowing its fake all the while

Merry Christmas
