Dinner With Death

Everyone says that death is scary,
but I know now that it's a lie,
because he came to dinner today,
just appeared right out of the sky.

When my mom saw him she started to cry,
begged him to let her be,
said she wasn't ready to go just yet,
cause she still had to look after me.

Death just glided toward the table,
and to our astonishment he took a seat,
then I saw a twinkle in my mother's eyes,
as she continued preparing the meat.

Unsure of what was going on,
I took my seat next to death,
and after a few moments of silence,
I heard my mother release her breath.

Next thing I knew the roast was on the table,
and the wine was flowing free,
everyone seemed happy,
my mother, death, and me.

Death complimented on her cooking,
as my mother passed him some more,
next thing I knew it was three hours later,
and death was walking out the door.

My mom gave him a doggie bag,
and he said that he cooking would do the world good,
and when she closed the door on her "guest",
we both just sat where we stood.

The silence was broken with my mother's laughter,
and I think I heard her say,
"Well if this roast can save me from death,
then it's sure good enough for the P.T.A."
