A drunk drivers thoughts

by evan   Jan 5, 2006

You swore you'd never drink and drive
that it was stupid, wrong and sick
maybe that girl would be alive
is you had stopped to think
maybe if you had drunk a little less
or gotten a ride home
you would never have to confess
that it was your fault
and yours alone
maybe if you had stayed a little longer
or left a bit earlier than some
maybe if your conscience was stronger
you never would've come
but theres no time for maybes now
whats done is done and ended
there's no time to wonder how
this happened or what you intended
you look at that girl
lying motionless on the ground
your head starts to whirl
you hear nothing
not a sound
you think that it's all a dream
that your home safe in your bed
but it's all real it seems
and your heart fills with dread
thoughts fill your head
about the trouble you have caused
its your fault she's dead
you look, but theres no stop button
no pause
as they put the handcuffs on your wrists you take one last look
at the road covered in mist
and the life you just took
as you watch the body bag get zipped up, its color black as night
you think as you start crying
nothing ever goes right
when it comes to drinking and driving
