Forgotten Memories (Alzheimer's)

by JL   Feb 5, 2006

I went to visit you
We had a couple words
You mostly nodded and smiled
I hope my prayers are heard

You no longer remember my name
But you still recognize me
Sometimes you got confused
I forgot about your memory

Its not so bad yet
It has not progressed much
You still know birthdays
You still recognize our touch

Its mostly the recent things
Which you can not recall
Whether it be going out
Or who gave you a call

I know you know deep down
The problem is the disease
Its taking over everything
Its impossible to please

Its not very long now
Until you go fly free
Return to you wife
With no recollections of me

*My Pop Pop has Alzheimer's and its progressively getting worse*

Very heartfelt..... I am so sorry about your pop pop, my pop had the same disease, but things have progressed with medicine these days, so maybe there is something they can do. If not, then just love him and keep visiting with him, let him talk about whatever he wants too. You can try to tell him things and see if he remembers, but most times he won't. He will slowly get worse, but he will always be your pop pop. I know it can be frustrating for you, but hang in there and support him as much as you can. Just let him know you love him. Wonderful write sweetie, if you ever need to talk, just PM me.....
