This world

by master of shadow   Feb 9, 2006

What is this world we have made for ourselves?
A world where freedom and truth are constrained,
A world where freewill is merely an illusion,
Where individualism is discouraged by prejudice,
And freedom contained by regulation.

The delicate flame of life is suffocating
Many flames are already gone but some may still be saved
Such hatred exists in this world,
Such hatred that we fear all around us,
And live out our life in the shadow of oppression.

Only in death are we truly alive,
Only then are we truly free,
In life we are been bled dry,
Domed from the start,
To this existence in this desolate space.

A very powerful poem, the expressions resonate deeply, a poem of undeniable truths. I like the way you began by questioning, it's intreguing, and then the way you finish with a dark, ominous statement.
