Neon cross (life around the block)

by angie   Feb 10, 2006

Down on the corner theres a church
with a neon cross that lights my pane.
The old woman next door says thats where to go
if i ever need help to get through today.

Down on the corner theres a young girl
who sells herself to make her cash.
The neighbor lady comments on the sadness
of a child growing up too damned fast.

Down on the corner theres a bust
parents arrested and children taken from home.
The old woman next door knew it all along
why didn't I? These are the streets I roam.

Down on the corner a heart is breaking
a poor girl watches as her boyfriend gets shot.
The neighbor lady and myself silently get up
and walk down to the corner with the neon cross.
