Africa's Pain

by JL   Feb 19, 2006

The sun beats down
Unto parched Earth
Cracked and broken
It has no worth

A crippled tree
Wavers in the distance
Distorted by heat
It offers little resistance

Children stagger
Dazed and beaten
Its been many moons
Since they have last eaten

Parents long gone
Either to hunger or sickness
Death surrounds us;
Even the youngest witness

Haunted by rain
We dream and long for its taste
Its been so long
We are beginning to waste

Whittled to the bone
Tummy's cry out in pain
Praying for just a little food;
Just a little rain

Fading away
Another sad story
Not even ten
Lost in history

    It is so sad and so true. My french class decided to sponsor a child, her name is Sozarine and I'm glad to help in such a small way. Very nice write!

    My daughter and I were just talking about this last night, how we all complain about our own lives and here there are children in our world starving to death, it's such a shame. A true but very sad and heartfelt write........
