A Night At Friar Tucks

by Lara Salomon   Feb 22, 2006

It started with a dance -
Slow, rhythmic, gentle movements
That made all the music flow
Straight to my heart.
People pushing, shoving, dancing,
Moving us close together -
So close that I can feel your body shake
Your lips tremble.
All the time keeping eye contact
Challenging, questioning each other
Silently daring the other to make their move
To go in for the kill.
Until there is a mutual understanding
And nothing more between us
But air and slowly evaporating spaces
Between our bodies, lips, minds.
Dancing forgotten, people non-existent,
Music inaudible, until there is nothing left
But you and me and this specific moment
That will never come back.
