Another Day in Deadwood

by Bill Turner   Feb 22, 2006

Boots covered in dust and blood
Loaded six guns hang at my side
Vest and chaps bearing scars and crud
Standing in the street swelling with pride

I once spent a lifetime living here
Never doing what I should
Saunter to the saloon for a beer
Just another day in Deadwood

Another of my past lives catching up to me
Buried deep somewhere upon that hill
My former body at rest, soul living inside me
Wondering just how many did I kill

Walk the boardwalk taking in the sights
In this town I met a saloon singer
Savoring the chill of the dark nights
On the trigger my finger will linger

Gone are the gun fights of yore
No one killing in the street
Suddenly it is such a bore
Smiling at the people I meet

I know I once died here
Shot dead in the dust
Living with no fear
Buried in the earths crust

Yeah, you're right. You should be proud of that poem. Well done. If anything, I would have liked to hear the beat of the poem end with a single line: 'Another day in deadwood'

Great write...it made me think of western world back in the day. I loved how you wrote this about a past life it made the poem very affective.
    The ending is my favorite:
I know I once died here
    Shot dead in the dust
    Living with no fear
    Buried in the earths crust
