Ode to someone important

by Shædow Poet   Feb 23, 2006

I once was your candy,
Sweet supple scents invited you-
Savoring every Ecstasy puff.

Nicorette cigarettes, the sweetest poison
Which now, you float
Immune to me.

Always, your name will flicker stars
You were necessity
Like the hero in a cartoon.

Your smoke, your sugar drop
Has a heart, a core
Which, in retrospect, is never seen.

Gingerly, is me, a woman who strolls
Depression triumphed over her purpose
Replaced by a sensual drug.

I was the poem that never got published,
The cigarette you covered with filth
A memory devoured.

This is an animate ode,
A tear I wanted to shed,
It evaporated.

Not as good as your other stuff, but not bad by ANY means.

Intriguing as always. I've probably said this in every comment I've ever left you, but you write in such a unique way. I'm always at a loss for words.
I really enjoyed this poem, but this part:

"I was the poem that never got published,
The cigarette you covered with filth
    A memory devoured."

left me in a state of awe! That's just WOW!!!!
Take care and keep it up~Holly
