Prince with a fool\'s gold crown

by Lauren G.   Mar 1, 2006

I am perpetually waiting for my knight in shining armor
White horse, bright lights, and fields of flowers
Who lifts me up and transports me to a place
Beyond this world, beyond this time
A time that the clock hands will never reach
To a place you recognize from dreams from which you have just woken
I am forever searching for my handsome prince charming
Captivating smile and appealing promises
Who sees charm even through my heavily guarded exterior
Beyond my faults, beyond my insecurities
But instead he finds imperfections no one else can see
I am perpetually waiting for my knight in shining armor
White horse, bright lights, and fields of flowers
Who does not fear sharing his soul and his secrets
Beyond the superficial, beyond what is safely hidden
But instead he always keeps a lock on his heart
Continuously escaping just before the moment of capture
I am forever searching for my handsome prince charming
Captivating smile and appealing promises
Whose eyes penetrate my core and see a different paradise
Beyond apparent beauty, beyond physical attraction
But instead he exploits me, drags me along, and then casts me off
Like a worthless object discarded once it is fulfilled its duty
I had hoped you were my knight in shining armor
As you seemed to materialize out of thin air
And captivate me with your mystery and nonchalance
But as all mirages eventually reveal their true character
You disappointed me with your deceptive nature
And your implicit false pretenses
Almost tricked me into believing that for once fantasy could exist as reality
But now I know that under the dazzling smile, flattering compliments,
pretend concern, and false securities
You are just an imitation disguised as a prince.

Great job. It didn't rhyme but didn't have to because it carried its own tune. Good poem.
