The Good Old Days

by Lauren G.   Mar 1, 2006

I am thinking back
When life used to be so simple

Toy cars and blocks
Walking by the pond
Swingsets and Climbing trees
Bouncy balls
It was just the beginning.
I can still smell those tulips
In the front yard
I remember the little boy
across the street
I remember when his sister
Pushed me off my bike
I cried for hours because
I got that scrape on my knee
Those were the good days

Swinging and Swimming
Roasting marshmallows
Family vacations
Playing with friends in the park
I never knew what life was about
I remember that ugly brown carpet
in that stupid apartment
I remember that day
When the toaster caught on fire
I miss that caterpillar I had in 3rd grade.
Those were the good days.

Sleepovers
Silly fights with friends
Birthday parties
and road trips to Nana\'s
The world was a rollercoaster
And I was a passenger
Just on for the ride.
I remember that ugly shag green carpet
My room was always hot
But I can still hear the birds
Singing outside my window
When I woke up
I remember when every day
seemed to be bright
The clouds slowly
passed me by
as I rode my bike
down that quiet, tree lined street.
Those were the good days.

Uniforms
School dances
Discovering myself
Things were changing fast.
I remember jamming to my punk rock
I thought I was so cool
I remember trips to the bead shop
And the day we moved away
When the neighbor girl got stung by a bee
I miss those cold days
Whenever it snowed
And the streets turned to mush
I had no idea what I was getting into
Those were the good days.

Raves and techno music
New friends
Driving
New experiences
Im learning about the meaning of life
I walk down the street
with my headphones on
and my thoughts are deep
I sit in my room and write poems
About how it used to be
Im making mistakes
Trying to fill the hole inside
While my best friend is slowly slippin away
Some days I cant find myself
And some days I wish I was somewhere else
Some days I wish it was as simple as before
When life was toy cars
Sleepovers
Swinging
and school dances
Those were the good days.
