Without a happily-ever-after

by *fading*away*   Mar 22, 2006

I don't know what happened to our friendship
And now I realize that it's no use even if I knew
Because you aren't going to change anyway
If only you could know,
How much it hurts to know that I can't trust you no more
And my heart won't let me be, won't let you free
Maybe because we meant too much,
Too much to be forgotten

Looking up at the stars tonight,
I know that letting go of you is just not possible
The dreams I dreamt of you and I
Are now lying at my feet
And this may be the thousandth poem I wrote
About what our friendship that was meant to last

If only you could read this and realize
That I was truer than all your dumb friends
How could you put me in the back again
And go off with all your dumb friends

All the smiles you have given me
Stand still, caught in a time of long ago
Yeah, you were right when you said
That we weren't meant to be
Yeah, you were right when in your eyes
You said, "Just bug off, I got stuff to do"

How could I ever believe that we could last
How could I have been a fool to believe that you were true
All those rainy nights spent on thinking of you,
Well I wonder now how I could have been so blind
If only I could turn back time
And treat you the way you are treating me now
Maybe then you'll know how to appreciate
Instead of depreciating every single thing I do

Maybe then you'll realize
That we were truly meant to be
And it wasn't supposed to end
Without a happily-ever-after
