Untethered

by Christy Trenholm Schmall   Mar 26, 2006

Let the passion
Taunt me to
Insanity
Pirouette around my
Head til it
Owns my mind

Let its eclectic aroma
Invade my lungs
'Til they burst
Its storms rip
And squeeze my heart
to pate

Let the blue pyre
Sear my flesh
To the 3rd degree
Its violent voltage
Zap me til
I scream

Let the weight of it
Crush my bones
Into dust
Its bittersweet
Acid rain melt
My soul

Let its venom
Viciously flood
My veins to aneurysm
Centipede arms beat me
'Til I beg
To die

Only then
Will I be unafraid
To let go

This is such an excellent poem, Christy(one typo you need to fix-2nd stanza, 2nd line-add the 'n' to lungs),This is such a powerful piece! The images are many and fresh, unique, and the somewhat minimalist style(in this as well as some of your other poems) really puts the emphasis on the thoughts and emotions going on as one reads this. The images and emotion are just fantastic. And the last stanza/line is one of the best endings to a poem I've seen in awhile, a true knock-out of an ending.
