Ode to the North Star

by Tink   Mar 27, 2006

I'm looking up and I'm trying to give.
The lights inside the homes don't shine so bright.
Tonight will be the last night that I live.
All the stars up there on this last night
All seem so dim, only one stick out,
It's this one bright star that helps me to cope
With the fact that my life is soon to end.
Death is what this night is all about
This is my North Star; this is my last hope.
On this night, the North Star is my best friend.

Then I softly sing my written song
Doing my best to hold all my tears back
Now it doesn't seem like it's been that long
Tonight it is purpose that I lack.
Memories begin to flood my mind
Memories of times hanging out with friends.
I think of the first time I fell in love,
I'm 'bout to leave this earth without a "Good-bye"
I'll be happy now, at least I'll pretend.
My North Star has become my nighttime dove.

When all my friends have faded away,
When all the family has gone back home,
When all is gone, my North Star still remains.
In the sky, it's my everlasting stone.
Breath is short and movement is hard to make
They are all gone and they don't seem to care.
So I never beg for an extra moment,
But an early death seems like a mistake.
My last night, with only one I share.
To my North Star, "Goodnight my only friend."
