Power, Death, and the Great Lie

by Sean Allen   Mar 29, 2006

Bejeweled chalices shine on the floor,
great tapestries hang from wall to wall
and a great seal is stamped on his door.
I see the old king, among all that he owns;
his crown on his head as he sits on his throne.
Pain in the eyes of the statues in the hall:
"Alone," they sigh. "All alone."

I.V. drips are slowly counting down
until she finally takes her last breath
and they bury her deep underground.
The harrowing coughs rip the marrow from bone,
each echoing words as impassive as stone.
"Perhaps now, at last, she can finally rest."
Alone, she dies. All alone.

Sometimes when I look into your eyes
I only hear your crystalline voice
twitter and sigh all your quiet lies.
You'll tell me you hate how far apart we've grown,
then you'll mention that I always should have known
since I had never given you any choice
Alone. I'll be all alone.

All of your poems are filled with such depth and it is obvious the amount of work you put into them. When reading some poems, I am unsure if they meant to not use punctuation or grammar in a particular way, but because your poems are so beautifully written with talent, it is clear that these things are done on purpose. You are by far one of my favourite poets on this site.

This was really good. In only three stanza you expressed alot. The flow and rhyming were excellent. And I really liked the way you worded the first three lines in the first stanza. Overall this was a really good job. Derserves more then a 5/5 but that's all I can give.

Wow that poem really blew me away. It was very deep and the repetition of being alone at the end of each stanza gave it a powerful effect. The flow and rhthym of it was really good and really held up well. It was very descriptive and I could picture it all in my mind. This is a really good poem.
