What is "normal"?

What is an average life?
To live like everyone else
Not be haunted by unreasonable fears,
To not be stalked by your past.
A life where you feel happy
Where things often go to plan.
A stable background
A home where you feel safe.
Is this a normal life?
The way it's meant to be?

What is an average family?
One that acts as it should
Who don't spend time fighting
Yelling screaming hitting
People who are not violent or drunk.
A family who stick together
Though all, good and bad.
People you can always trust.
Is this a normal family?
The way they should be?

What is an average friend?
One who is there for you.
A person who you trust
Who you can tell all to.
A friend who will help you
Who would not turn their back
Not run away when things get tough.
One you know will be near
Is this a normal friend?
The way friendship should be?

What is an average life?
To have a family
And a friend or too.
To not be forever alone
Forever scared of what may not be there,
Have parents that care for you
And you care for them in return.
A life that many don't have.
So why is it never normal?
Why never as it should be?

What is "average"?
How most people live
Those who have no problems
Those who live idealised lives
Lives with no downs only ups
Families that are always there
Friends who are forever true
Lives that cannot be real
Is this what is classed as "normal"?
An impossibility that should be true?
