Looking At You

You were with your girlfriend
the day that we met.
You came to a friends,
and hadn't noticed me yet.
You held her close
and stuck like glue.
but while you were looking at her,
I was looking at you.

And then the next year,
we were in the same class.
And I guess now I know
why I didn't pass.
Our teacher got mad
and her anger just grew.
But while you listened to her,
I was looking at you.

Thanks to a friend,
we started to bond.
I'd be so nervous when you talked
that I couldn't respond.
I had fallen so hard,
and you never knew.
But I saw you glance over
when I was looking at you.

We'd gotten so close
but then fallen apart.
And as I hurt you,
I broke my own heart.
I made a mistake,
and dated someone new.
But while I held his hand
I was looking at you.

I finally grew up,
tried to fix my mistakes,
and when I wasn't with you,
my whole body just ached.
At school, it got awkward,
but my love, it was true.
And while you looked at me,
I would stare back at you.

Now, somewhere between
all the heartbreak and fights,
We realized
that our love was right.
And yes, it gets hard
because this love is new.

And one night I dreamt
that you and I married.

our baby we carried.
A beautiful child,
to love through and through.
