Lonely

by Minkus   Apr 21, 2006

I smile and laugh at the stupid joke,
despising it inside
I grin and wave to my friends
while thinking how different we are...
And then in the night,
tears blur the insides of my eyelids...
But they can't escape from their lonely prison

I sleep, and dream of a place of similarities,
and it's not a nightmare
I hope that one day it will be a reality,
that the real world is the illusion...
And then in the morning,
I climb out of bed
and into lonely, confining reality

It's odd how people say
that they're afraid of the night,
Afraid of their dreams,
and that they can't fall asleep...

My nights are full of daydreams;
my days are sometimes nightmares
But every once in a while,
I find someone like me
And the world--
well, for a while--
isn't quite so bad.
