Wound To The Heart

Wound To The Heart

Back in the days when it was sword vs. shield
In that Great War where his wounds never healed
He lives on today still soaked in his heart's blood
He lives in misery; his tears cause the Great Flood
-But it was not enough to carry him away
He sits on his knees clasping his hands, praying to God he'll die today.
He wants to go to heaven so he won't take his own life
He'll have to wait for that day, then he'll see his love, his wife
His heart still aches as he takes each breath
He sees that horrid day of her death
Whenever he goes down to sleep he hears her screams
Every night he wakes up in sweat only regretting this wasn't a dream
Thinking her death was his fault his heart continues to bleed
Hating immortality. He won't give up; he'll always plead
Back in the days when it was sword vs. shield
He saw the death of his lover; that wound to his heart has never healed.

Wow I cant belive that I'm the very first person to comment on this poem. I loved it. It had such a sad tone to it, heartbroken without his/her love yet unable to do anything about it in the end. Amazing. "Back in the days when it was sword vs. shield" this is definatly my favorite line out of the whole thing. Very creative, and meaningful.
