The Funeral

by Christina Catastophe   Apr 26, 2006

Raindrops echo darkly
In the far distance
And the fall, dripping softly
On the fray fragile ground

I walk in the room
The air thick with tears
And sadness, almost hovering
Around the casket, mourners, and flowers

I float through the small crowd
Of close friends, family, and complete strangers
Offering my condolence to the weeping
Making my way to you...

Pushing myself past the many flowers
All pale lavender just like the lilacs
That sat upon your kitchen table
The smell making me suffocate with memories

I finally wander over to the white casket
There you lay with the look of peace upon your profile
Adorned with all your jewels and precious memories
I take one last look at the woman whom we all loved

Goodbye my good friend
We must never forget the memories and
Dreams we once shared
You will always be in our hearts held dear…

Very nice write ... for a moment I thought you'd be the ghost of yourself lying in the casket ... but losing someone is like losing a piece of ourselves.
