Plastic Smile

by Helen   Apr 30, 2006

Just the way he looks
With his crystal eyes of blue
The way he is with such a beautiful soul
Just the way he broke my heart in two

Ever since we were younger
I've loved him all along
He's the light in this darkness
He's the guiding tune in my song

I've been in love with him always
Since before I can remember
Since even before I met him
Since and always forever

When things didn't work out right
His voice would heal my pain
And at the very same time
It would drive me insane

He made me a promise
Best friends always
But I want more than he can give
And much more than I can pay

One day he looked at me
Unlike he had ever looked at me before
He parted his lips to speak
That was when my heart tore

He saw my face turn pale
And laughed a tiny laugh
He stuck his hand in his pocket
And showed me her photograph

He had found somebody
Who was pretty with gorgeous hair
And the face of an angel
They were the perfect pair

But what was I?
A girl not half as pretty as she
A girl with braces and an average body
And a slight case of acne

But why can't Prince Charming
For once get a girl
Who wasn't beautiful but still
Was his entire world

At that very instant
I thought my world would end
My heart inflicted a wound
That nobody could mend

He smiled at me and hugged me
I had lost, it was too late
I had enough time in the world
I guess this was just fate

I looked at him and smiled a plastic smile
And spoke words of such untruth
Spoke words that you could only expect
"I'm happy for you"
