True Colors

by Helen   Apr 14, 2007

Beneath the hair and accessories
Beneath this deceiving mask
Lies a girl whose soul is tortured
And whose heart lies in the past

Her mind is constantly spinning
Confused of what she's been taught
To live life to its fullest
But it seems it is all for naught

She cries herself to sleep at night
Lulled by her chanting prose
She repeats these words over again
By her side a wilting rose

Time heals all wounds
But with each tick of the clock
Her wounds get bigger
These ticks begin to mock

Each and everyday
She hears her heart beat
A heart she's grown to hate
A heart so full of deceit

She blinks back the tears
Chokes back the words
The words she hadn't spoken
The words no one would've heard

She sleeps with a damp pillow
Lying underneath her head
Her throat fouled so awfully
With words she'd never said

She'll cry herself to sleep to night
With a note clamped in her hand
She hopes she'll never wake
Into this life she'd never planned
