Blood Is Thicker Than Water, But It's Blood Flowing Through My H

by Ashleigh Skye   May 7, 2006

I walked through the front doors,
For the first time in so long,
To see my family stand around,
I hear the whisper of our song.

My feet have turned to led,
All the voices go unheard,
My eyes start welling up with tears,
Making everything I see blurred.

The party continues to rage,
As the music floats up in the air,
Our song plays over the speaker,
And it's more than I can bear.

Everything is suddenly in slow motion,
And the only thing I see is you,
But as quickly as my vision appears,
Someone blocks you from my view.

I feel the pain of my heartache,
With each single note I hear,
I continue praying and wishing,
That suddenly you will appear.

My cousin grabs my hand,
And pulls me up to dance,
I try to brush her off,
But she traps me with a glance.

As I approach the dance floor,
I try and remember where we went wrong,
My family's still around me,
And I just can't seem to stay strong.

My cousin embraces me in a hug,
And all my tears fall free,
But even still I wish,
That it was you squeezing me.

And even though I love my family,
It was you who healed my soul,
So now I'm left broken,
My heart as black as coal.

Sitting encircled by family,
I'm only thinking of you,
Silently nursing my broken heart,
Knowing it's the only thing I can do.
