The clock

The clock
By Dan Medley

Our lives are governed by the clock
It controls us, it harnesses us
Its has us in reins
There is no escaping the clock

The clock is our god
The divine power in our lives
We are its minions
Its slaves

The clock wakes us
Feeds us and cleanses us
It forces us to work and study
The clock is our statue
It is our idol

The clock calls to us in the morning
We wake
The clock cries in the afternoon
We depart for home
Its summons us to eat
To drink
To pray
The clock is our leader

Hanging on the wall
Above our heads
In every room
A clock
There is no evasion of it
No avoidance
Escape is not an option

The clock is there forever
Never ceasing it orders
We obey
It’s every whim and urge
It is our master
We are its drones
