The teen years vs. adult hood
By Dan Medley

The teen years
What are the teen years?
Having the freedom to do anything you want
Being youthful and healthy; sick free
Playing sports and doing academics
Making friendships and getting comrades
Getting girlfriends and having sweethearts
Being irresponsible and immature
Having no schedules or agendas
Having no job or profession
Is this the real life or just fantasy?

The teen years
What are the teen years?
Spending hours at malls with friends
Sneaking out at midnight just because you can
Skipping school to go eat frosties
Having all day theater runs with buddies
Getting sent to the Principle Office and having detentions
Scuffles with school yard bullies
Fights with parents and being grounded
Broken bones and sprained ankles
Acting like a dumb-ass and getting away with it
Not a care in the world
Not a single responsibility
FREEDOM
These are your teen years
Is this the real life or just fantasy?

Adult Hood
What is adult hood?
Being responsible and dependable
Having a career and a livelihood
Raising a family and bearing children
All day office runs and working
Owning a car and doing maintance
Buying a house and paying for upkeep
Mortgages, wills, and lawyer fees
Funerals and hospital bills
Paying taxes and running errands
Buying groceries and spending money
Having bills, bills, and more bills
This is adult hood
This is real life not a fantasy

Adult Hood
What is adult hood?
High stress and frustration
Anxiety and demands
Being sick and having bodily breakdowns
Getting older and weaker
Having wrinkles and gray hair
The pressure the strain
The tension the trauma
The fear of failure and defeat
Wishing you were young again
Wishing you could be a child again
Wishing you could be relaxed again
Wishing you could be a teen again
Wishing for liberty
For FREEDOM
And having the dread of upcoming death inside you
This is the real life not a fantasy

The real life
The lack of time and energy
Having No time for friends
Having No time for malls
Having No time to have fun
Having NO time for yourself
Having No time
What happened to my youth I ask?
Where did it go?
I was young and now I’m not
Once upon a time I had time now I have no time
Adult hood is spent sitting in a cage
Adult hood is spend paying bills
Adult hood is spend being responsible
In tension
Worried
Freedom less
Adult hood sucks
We where born young, wild, and free
We die restrained, stressed, and old
