Heartstrings

by TearsLeftUndried   May 9, 2006

The clock struck midnight
In the next room I can hear heartstrings snapping,
falling like ash,
laying dead on the carpet.
You don't notice and take a drag of your cigarette.
I close the bathroom door.
the white line next to the sink looks pure,
the way you used to make me feel.
the tub looked lonely that night
I climbed in
and the faucet kissed me goodnight.
