Unspoken

by Hilary   May 14, 2006

My heart cries out in pain tonight,
For the situation it must face...
An old love has returned again,
But a new one took his place.
The love that we once shared together,
Reignited the old flame...
But things aren't what they were back then,
No - times have changed.
Memories engulf me now,
As I walk around; confused and lost...
If I return to reminisce with my past,
I will have to pay the cost.
I wish I knew just what to do,
To untangle these mangled notions...
Who do I give my heart to?
With its entirety - love, trust, devotion.
Do I resume life with my old sweetheart?
Though it may not survive try two...
Or do I stand proudly by my new love,
And see forever through?
My vision is blurred by frightened tears,
Streaming down my face...
Feeling my darling shaking,
As he holds me in his embrace.
Oh, my sweet love, please don't cry,
I know you are afraid...
I've heard you whispering late at night,
Each word that you prayed.
What does one do when faced with this?
Either way, a heart must be broken...
One of their souls will drift from me -
Their loyal love... unspoken.
