Back to This

by Hilary   Jun 23, 2006

There she sits, before the television,
Tears streaming down her face...
Wishing that the man she loves,
Could be in her embrace.
She watches the news come morning,
And falls asleep to it at night...
Praying that she won't see his name,
The man who makes her life.
She faces her work days,
With a fake and imaginary smile...
Her co-workers can't look her in the eyes,
They'd rather live in denial.
Denial that the man she loves,
Is fighting to come home...
Fighting for the country he holds high,
While his wife is all alone.
She knew the moment that she said,
Her sweet and loving "I Do's"
That soon she'd have to say goodbye,
To the man she gave her heart to.
He never lied about his intentions,
Though he hated leaving her behind...
Every strong man wants to be a hero,
He put his strength towards mankind.
She still remembers the look on his face,
The last morning when she awoke...
The hidden pain behind his eyes,
The simple words he spoke.
He never would promise her,
That he'd return to her one day...
She knew of the trials he was facing,
And the assurances he couldn\'t make.
All he could leave her with, he said,
Was their one last, longing kiss...
And the words that he softly spoke to her,
"Im fighting to come back to this."
