I'm Living Dead

by stargirl49   May 23, 2006

I walk along the street,
yet I'm standing still.
I talk to my friends,
yet I am ever silent.
I eat my fill,
yet I'm starving.
I am alive,
yet I am dead.

In this crazy messed-up world,
I am living dead.
In this everlasting nightmare,
I am living dead.
In this insignificant life,
I am living dead.

I scream for help,
yet it comes out as a whisper.
I talk,
yet no one hears me.
I cry,
yet my eyes are dry.
I talk to God,
yet there is no answer.
I am surrounded by people,
yet I am all alone.
I am seen by all,
yet I am invisible.

In this great sea of people,
I am living dead.
In this life I lead,
I am living dead.
In God's eyes,
I am living dead.

I am dead to Him,
when I should be dead to myself.

Who am I
that You choose to know my name?
Who am I
that You call me Your friend?
You who were there
before the world began,
why do You choose
to make me Your own?

I who am just a speck
in the world's existence,
I am living dead.
You call my name
so gently and softly
and yet I choose not to hear.
You offer such great gifts
and yet I search for
something more to my liking.
And when I finally choose
to call out to You,
You don't hear me call.
I have strayed too far
away from Your Presence
and I am nearly shut out.
I'm just barely a Christian,
I'm living dead.

And then came that joyful day
when I realized my mistake.
I came back to God's Presence
and the angel's glad chorus
rang out loud and clear,
another lost believer
had come running Home.

I live out the rest of my days
as a brave proud soldier for Christ.
I walk along the street,
but somehow I am running.
I talked to my friends,
yet somehow I was shouting.
I am once again living,
and nothing else could be better.
For I am no longer living dead.
