Rose

by Samantha Compton   May 29, 2006

How can you stand so tall
When fierce storms blow so shrill?
How is it that you come again
Even after winter's frigid chill?
Your crimson beauty never fades
As long as your petals stay,
And though you sometimes leave your stem,
You'll never fully go away.

I am the hope that is steady,
Despite the summer breeze.
I may bend over all the way,
But won't die unless I freeze.
I keep my beauty ever present,
Even if you cut me off,
So that I can sooth those
Who have an illness or a cough.
I can calm the troubled souls
With my fragrances of joy.
I express the love and caring
Of any girl or boy.
I always must come back
After winter's come and gone,
So I can bring that ounce of peace
That we all are counting on.
