Invisible

by Samantha Compton   Sep 9, 2006

High school heartache
And drama filled days,
Ignoring your world
With a lesson-filled haze.
Trying your best
To feel free and alive,
To be that girl
That any guy would like.
Dressing the part,
You walk through each hour,
Hoping you're worthy
Of popular power.
But at the days end,
You go back home,
Struck down and tired,
And just as alone.
If only your nose was small,
Your teeth were white,
You had a new wardrobe,
Or lost weight overnight.
Then you wouldn't be invisible
And people would see
That inside you're as beautiful
As the sky and the sea.
But even you can't see
That side which is you,
It's container is broken,
And bruised black and blue.
Yet you hold out a hope
That someone will come,
Mop up the bloodstains
From all that's been done.
Your angel will come
Wipe away all your tears,
Share your burden of pain,
Dis acceptance, and fear.
But nobody finds you
Important enough
To help you get through
The times that are rough.
You might as well leave,
Just run far away,
To someplace where their standards
Are kept out at bay.
Even then they won't see you,
Or care if you're there.
Their way to involved
In naive affairs.
But through all this,
You'll never escape
The comments they made
On your size or your shape.
Though they will forget you,
Dismiss you as myth,
The scars that they leave
Drag you down in your bliss.
And so on each weekend
While you rest your brain,
Your conscience rejoices,
But your soul drowns in rain.
