Asleep

by Ike Dizzle   Jun 2, 2006

(This a poem from my grandfather to his grandchildren after he died)

I have closed my eyes and fallen asleep
So there is no reason for you to weep
This is a debt we all must pay
But it is a sweet and peaceful way

I have endured pain and sometimes sorrow
Now I dont have to worry about tomorrow
But life for you must go on
You must not worry because Im gone

You stood beside me all the way
When I was down you knew what to say
You always told me to get some rest
Let me sleep now; Ive done my best

So please now let me rest in peace
The tears youre shedding soon will cease
Youll soon realize that this was meant to be
And I thank God because he came for me

Maybe its because you said your grandfather wrote this, but the piece seemed very wise. It was a very relaxing and wise piece, I felt. My favorite stanza was by far the first one, it had a lot of power, depth, peace and flow in it.

Hey. I'm sorry to hear what has happened, however the fact that the poem was left is a beautiful thing. I'm glad that he was able to leave his legacy with you guys and have feelings written in words. Very few have the chance to, or ever do, leave that kind of thing for a family. It's beautiful, and thanks for sharing it :).
