Greed

by Shane Peate   Jun 3, 2006

Conscious is he when he's told
Of the glorious pot of gold
Such a fervor so it seems
Wealth beyond his wildest dreams

Incentive taken, up this mountain will climb
He who is willing to sacrifice time
To attain the tricks of the trade
Bear any cost for profit to be made

Values corrupted, beliefs mistaken
Friends and family are thus forsaken
Cold shoulder given to the world below
Fire in his eyes did fiercely glow

Ever lonely it is here at the top
Violent winds gust and never stop
Others attempt to pull him down
Succeed the thrown, steal his crown

Do what is necessary to preserve his place
Expunging them without a trace
Evil beginning to overwhelm
Slipping into a darker realm

Increasing fear of his exposure
Unable to keep his own composure
Alone in this world without a friend
Pistol in hand, he put his life to an end

Something that, unfortunatley, lingers in all human beings - even those of us with good and stable morals. That was an excellent way of displaying the characteristic of greed, and the ending of that story showed how destructive it can be without warning... Well, anyway, I talked to you quite a long time ago in the chat room for this site and you helped me out alot. I was going to check out much more of you poetry sooner, but I didn't have the chance until now. Now that I have, I'm pleasantly surprised :). You've got alot of talent hidden in that pen of yours. Thanks for the help (even if you don't remember me hehe) and thanks for the read. Best wishes. -Stefhy
