Once Upon A Time There Lived A Girl

by Samantha Jayneee   Jun 12, 2006

Once upon a time
There lived a girl,
But to some people
She was no ordinary girl -
She was a princess.
With her blonde hair
And big blue eyes
She looked perfect,
Her gentle touch
And her soft voice
Must have hidden her wings,
Because to one boy
She was an angel.
This one boy thought
More than the world of her.
He was hers and
She was his.
Every night he would long to
Hold her in his arms
The watch her until she fell asleep.
He promised her that
They would be together
Until the end,
Their happily ever after.
But every evening,
When the girl was on her own,
She would rip off her clothes
And peal back her mask,
For under her exterior
Layed the Devil.
Locks of black hair
Grew from her head,
Her eyes rimmed with
Thick black lines.
Her once glowing cheeks
Held no colour -
Her skin so pale, so pure.
No-one knew her dark secret,
For she locked it up,
Afraid to let it go,
Yet every day
She relived her secret
And led the boy to believe
That she was happy;
What someone doesn't know
Can't hurt them.
The only person the girl wanted to hurt
Was herself.
One day the boy wanted
To surprise his angel,
So he turned up at her tower,
Uninvited.
The door not bolted,
He let himself in.
Glancing around, he saw
The girl's doll,
Making him sigh -
Some girls never grow up.
Tiptoeing up each stair,
He waited anxiously,
Hoping to see his angel in flight.
He felt impatient -
How he longed to stroke her cheek,
To hold her hand and
To hear her voice.
Opening the girl's door,
He pictured her face;
Beautiful was the only word.
He shut the door behind him,
Knowing his angel's halo was
Hidden in his heart.
He had to prove
This was not a dream.
A gentle hand grabbed his arm,
The grip quite tight.
The girl's weak body
Fell against his.
At first, he did not
Recognise her,
For she looked so different.
A shot to her chest
Bled her dress a
Deep crimson.
It became clear,
Only heaven can take back
What it creates.
Then it hit the boy -
The weight of the world was
Hidden behind his girl's fake smile.
