The World's Broken Heart

by Just Me   Jun 13, 2006

A family comitted suicide today
and as the news man
goes on about the weather
i think hard
i recall the world's many faults
a little girl's kidnapping
to a little boy's murder
a car accident on Main Street
to september eleventh
a fire on Elm Street
guess thats what this worlds come to
death, destruction, and devestation
my heart breaks
as i see
a family weep at a funeral for
a young teen "expirimenting" with drugs
her little sister clutching her picture
afraid to lose it too
if only they knew
if only I could call out
and tell them of a hope
of a cure for every cancer
and every STD
of a love greater than any other
tears of sadness flow
as I read about a young boy beaten by his father
and just under it
a young girl who was run over
if only i could tell them all
I have the answer
one that will fix there every problem
mend there broken hearts
and tend there wounds
if only i could tell their family of a strength
that will get them through
as I witness this world's broken heart
i long to send it up to heaven
to show the world
it doesn't have to be this way
we don't have to suffer alone
that hope can once more
be in our hearts
and that happiness
is no longer a tear drop away
that things dont have to get worse
before they get better
as I read the studies that show
how many teens
will attempt to take their lives
I long only to shout
of my hope and my king
my lord who has saved me
from this world's broken heart
from animal cruelty
to rape
i can only pray to God
to show this world
that life is hard
but that by just accepting
Jesus's gift
we can be saved
the blood that dripped slowly
from his feet
mixed with dirt and sweat is the blood
that clenses our souls
and eases our minds
the crown of thorns
that sits upon his head
is the very crown
that will take in our pain
and make us new
the spit on his face
is the spit we spit on him
when we refuse
to accept his gift
and it is his body
he gives so that we may have hope
a reason to live
and by his gift
we have hope
in living in a world that isn't
of a broken heart

*Jesus died a horrible death, but most people don't realize Jesus didn't die cleanly, he died sweating, bleeding, and dirty. Not with a clear complexion and brushed hair. Jesus offers himself not as a clean rich white american but rather a dirty sweaty bloody obedient servant, knowing this what are you going to do with it... are you just going to watch this world's heart break?*
