Grandma's Chair

by Ruthie   Jun 13, 2006

It creaks from age
Old wood worn thin
Too many winters
Wrapped in its skin

So many memories
Held in its arms
The gentle hum grows
Singing its psalms

Of life's adventures
Of pain, of loss
All things new
Pass into faded gloss

Yet as times pass
It remains stable
Through the years
It's earned the label

"Comfortable, smooth
Always warm
Reliable, sturdy
In excellent form"

But it doesn't care
It just remembers
All the stories
By glowing ambers

The soft musk perfume
Old, gnarled hands
The chatter of children
Doing handstands

Watching in glee
As they grow old
Then move away
The house now cold

The two of them
Rocking in silence
Feeling her life
Hold on in defiance

Till finally she left
One bright afternoon
No more night knitting
No more soft tunes

Now Grandma's chair
Waits all alone
For someone to come
And bring it back home...

I guess your style is lyrical. I enjoy them. They are profuse and tacky if i may say. You are good in this. Keep up the spirit
