Lost and in distress

by jac   Jun 14, 2006

Lost in a never ending hole, the deep starry night,
it was as dark as I'd ever seen.
I tried to yell, to send a distress call
for someone to find me, if his or her ears were keen.

I cried out through the empty abyss,
for a soul, anyone, to hear me in distress.
To not hear me shriek into the emptiness
would be like using a needle-less compass.

All the while, knowing that no one could hear me,
yelling, the only thing to do other than shout.
The night seemed to swallow my voice, whole.
Forever I would remain lost, lost, without a doubt

Alas, a bright glow, shining far away.
Could it be the light of day?
It shone like a lantern, in the dawn of May,
however it was my rescuer, appearing in solemn gray.
