Deadwood Again

by Bill Turner   Jun 16, 2006

As night over takes the day and sleep sets in
I am awash in a sea of thoughts and images
Glimpses deep into my dark and dirty past
With my eyes closed I can see the blood on my hand
Staining me where my six gun once was...grand

Smell of iron in the air...blood upon my boots
Chaps slipping through the Deadwood dirt
Weight of a hundred souls pulling me down
Making it harder to take out that gun
Not wanting to end the life of another son

Having lived this life as a modern day gun slinger
I feel a kinship with times of the past
Drawn to Deadwood like a bee to honey
Wanting to roar down the street on my iron horse
Knowing that changes I made altered my dark course

Having died once bleeding in the cold dirt
My heart knows that I cannot escape my past
My destiny is a course I cannot plot
All I can do is live my life the very best
Waiting for that gunshot to strike my chest

Honor is in the way that we live
Death is something we all must do alone
My heart calls for another day in Deadwood
Seeing, feeling and breathing it all in
The place of my soul's greatest sin

    Great Job Bill!
You did a fantastic job with the imagery in this poem...I felt like I was there. And I feel that this should be stated, but I do not usually read poems that do not have the ABAB or ABCB ryhme scheme...but your poem kept my attention. It was very well written and flowed smoothly. Once again, congradualtions on a job well done.

Bill.. I like this style you have been writing in. It's fantastic! I can't say anything more precise that Diana, so I shall simply say; This is a masterpiece, written straight from that weary soul of yours. It's always a pleasure to read your work!
