Justice Bells (Song)

by David Moss   Jun 17, 2006

I am a tax collector,
I will tell most everyone.
But if you knew my real job,
your days were nearly done.
Cause that would mean that you and I
have common interest found,
You've done some wrongs and I've been paid
To put you in the ground.

When people fall upon their knees
All thoughts of bad deeds done;
Starin' at the business end
of my well-oiled gun.
I take a pause to share with them
some insight I have learned;
I say the same thing everytime
before their soul's returned -

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your justice bell is ringin'
Like one day you knew it would
You've lived a life in shadow
You're just no f**kin good
I've polished up your justice bell
How sweet she does now sing
A pity you will never hear
Your justice bells' last ring
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The only thing about this job
I've never liked to do
Was in the takin' care of details,
but if not me then who
So often I will grab a car,
Ring a justice bell or two
And hit the open highway
To collect my latest due

I'll pity not your children
For the evils you have done
Cause the way I see it partner
I think they owe me one;
No time for cowards' beggin'
So please listen to me son
For what I have to say to you
I dont just share with anyone -

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your justice bell is ringin'
Like one day you knew it would
You've lived a life in shadow
You're just no f**kin good
I've polished up your justice bell
How sweet she does now sing
A pity you will never hear
Your justice bells' last ring
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I blew a tire on my last trip
Out on the hot mac-top
I had to ring the justice bell
A girl-guide scouting cop
Wasnt long before they had me
In this chair hooked up
And asked if I had any words
Before they lit me up

I've lived a life collectin
off the deeds that some have done
Rung many bells across the land
I've hurt near everyone
And in your eyes I can see my sins
Save for all but one
And that's for justice to be served
to me from Him, His Son.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My justice bell is ringin'
Like one day I knew it would
I've lived my life by takin some
I'm just no f**kin good
You've polished up my justice bell
How sad she does now sing
I only wish that I could hear
My justice bells' last ring
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yeah, you've polished up my justice bell

How sad she does now sing...

I only wish that I could hear,

My justice bells' last ring

    This song seems to have rated by someone who has no appreciation for fine folk lyrics… I enjoyed reading this piece and will give it a 5

    Its good, but I think you used the fact that it was a song, not a poem, as an excuse to make it fruity. I mean the writing. It just doesnt seem to have a flow like a good poem, it has rough patches. {4/5}
