Nailbiting stuff

I knew a girl who bit her nails, a very hard habit to break.
I really can't quibble, that very first nibble was that poor girl's first big mistake.
She'd gnaw and she'd chew, yes it's sad but it's true, her fingers were all red and sore.
She'd bite while in bed till her cuticles bled then she'd sleep after biting some more.
Then on one fateful day, her mind went I would say. She felt that she had to go on
She did have to tussle with tough bits of muscle but her hand was chewed up before dawn.
With a soft nervous chuckle she'd chomped to the knuckle and then moved on up to the wrist
The forearm was tough but she chewed well enough then went back for the bits she had missed.
It was quite a chore , it was really quite sore
and the elbow? Well what can I say?
They say bone is tough but that word ain't enough
It set teeth on edge on that day!
I know well, my story does sound rather gory
(I guess it's a question of taste...)
I swear on myself that girl swallowed herself
Yes, I know..... one so young...what a waste.
One thing I confess is my nails are a mess
Yup, I used to think gnawing was fun
But if this tale avails to well, saving some nails
Then my job for the moment is done.
