Sigh

by Steve V   Jun 26, 2006

As I sit and stare into the abyss that lies beyond
I can't help but think what might have been
Only blackness covers my vacant canvass
An empty palate with no hue, tint nor contrast
I've tasted the fruits of my conquests
Although starving, my appetite has diminished
I've pondered the blissful visions of inspiration
Though nothing serves as guidance or support

Weathered veins pump a slow emulsion
The stream very barren, weary of hope
Unbridled sadness from my heart, it erodes and fissures
Knowing that the scars will always linger

Doubts that have been cast, fall into view
Across my eyes, I only see an empty void
Where you once stood so proudly, so revered
Now only shadows of memories appear

My itinerary has now changed, my path clouded
I stumble to my feet, but I can not support the anguish
This pain deep inside my heart, silently the doors close
Locked away to never see a ray of sunshine again
