I Sit & Wait

by Steve V   Jun 26, 2006

As I sit and watch the tide roll by, lost in a trance
I see the shimmer dance across the ocean's turbid waters
The reflections of diamonds cap the gently rolling waves
I have to sit and count the grains of sand and hope
They are ever changing, never to return to the exact same spot
The sound of crashing surf shrouds all thought
Echo's of a silent rhythm, one that evokes a place in my heart
Peering deeply into reality, as the water embraces me
A slight murmur resonates in my mind
Almost like putting a shell to your ear, I strain to hear
A fading hiss sinks into the sand, till muted
As I looking out over the horizon, a haze disperses
All the while, a wretched fisherman pulls into port
A sandpiper digs for its next meal as the water reseeds
Just to find it is all been washed away, cast into doubt
Reflections cast into obscurity with each passing wave
Without ever being capable of returning where I once was
At a place I yearn for, a place my spirit calls home
I turn the page, reflecting back, I heave a deep sigh
Across this liquid abyss where I once voyaged
Adrift in an ocean that will see no light of day
Eventually, either consumes me or be my demise
My footprints in the sand are being washed away
With each shore break of the passing tide, eclipses my view
Memories that was once so vivid and cherished
Now leave a cold, empty, heartless watery void
A crash awakens me as I tumble and roll, cloaks my tears
Wishing the tide would wash my soul and make me whole again
