Bittersweet Memories

by JL   Jun 28, 2006

Sitting in the tree
Where they spent so many years
By the fishing lake
Glistening with her tears

The tree soaked up their blood,
Promises and secrets
Held her when she couldn't stand
Haunting with memories she cannot forget

Societies outcasts
Protected and hidden
The fragile heart broken
Forever pain-ridden

Watching as they laughed,
Witnessed their first kiss
Saw them grow year after year
Nothing did she miss

A girl without a mother
A boy with no friends
They made each other whole;
They helped each other mend

She was terrified of being alone
But as she sat in that tree
All she had left
Was his sweet memory

*inspired by the movie 'My Girl'*
