Something's Different

by Clarity   Jun 29, 2006

Something in me has changed
I'm not sure what it is, but
I can feel it in the looks I get
From family and friends
The looks, they say,
"What's with you?"
My appearance is the same
Same mouth,
With that mocking smile
Same eyes,
Still to big, haunting me.
The nose, still
A bit crooked from where it broke.
The pain is still there too.
Pain's constant companion,
Sadness has also
Left his mark on my face.
You can see it in the lines that
Shouldn't mar the face of one
Still so young in years.
But I'm old in the ways of the world
I've seen death, loss, rejection.
Yep, it's my inside that's changed.
From full of life
To sad and cynical.
Another life changed,
And haunted by hurt.
